was discussing gun control in the united states on another wall and thought I would post one of my comments here:

I am afraid of our own military, and having guns against them will not do anything but slow them down if our military turned against us. so I do not really care if citizens have guns or not, as it is not a big deal. Mc donalds kills more people with hamburgers than people do with guns in the united states, so after we get rid of mcdonalds I will start worrying about if people have guns or not.

Andrewcramer No its not directly the cause of death pythonawe, like for example one of my relatives ate lots and got fat off of fast food for a year or to. then one day he was like "hey ima get in shape" and started exercising, he died of a massive heart attack while playing tennis because to put it simple, had fat around his heart even though he had gotten in shape all summer and had lost most of his former weight. So without the fast food he would never died, but it was not the direct cause of it.

Andrewcramer although on average 14 people die from getting sick off of the disgusting beef fast food restaurants use each year. so a few deaths are directly caused by it, but a few deaths are directly caused by just about everything

ThuBioNerd That's not pertinent. You might as well say the Catholic church killed billions, like so many assholes do, simply because between 600 and 1500 AD all western Europe was Catholic and after 1500 all of South America, Central America, much of Western Europe, and the African/Asian colonies settled by Spaniards, Portugese, etc. were Catholic.
That sounds like one of those shock things they put in headlines - "Turns Out X Kills Millions of People!"

Andrewcramer Perhaps catholic churches were responsibly, not like we were there to see it to know. Not sure what could be in a catholic church that could kill billions though, so can't really have solid opinion on something I know nothing about. But overall your right about mcdonalds not being the sole cause of death, but the same can be applied to guns, no death can be blamed on only one thing completely, there are always a number of factors. Like maybe its the invention of the car that caused the person to be near a the shooting, if they walked they would of taken longer and gotten there after it, etc. But is "it was not the direct cause of death" really a valid reason to not remove and or fix something?

ThuBioNerd My response to the first statement: I'm studying Medieval history right now, and it goes extremely in-depth (60-70%) on the religions, and I can confirm that this did NOT happen.

I was bringing the Catholic church murder thing in as an example of hype-headings (see link-bait, etc.), like the one you pulled with McDonalds. I just don't see the corralation between people going out and getting fat then dying of heart attacks/whatever of their own doing and a guy going out with a pistol or other firearm and shooting people.

People die from both don't they? that is what they have in common, and if the goal is to prevent people from dying then objective wise mcdonalds ranks higher in things needed to be fixed. and no I am not talking about making mcdonalds illegal, but it would not hurt if their hamburgers were of better quality without whatever chemicals they do not admit to putting indirectly into their hamburgers that keeps them from decaying, probably put it in the packaging so they can legally claim they put no chemicals in the hamburger.

This is true, but it would also help if people ate more healthily. It is not McDonalds' fault if my uncle goes every day and eats a Big Mac. Death via overindulgence is not the vendor's fault anymore than purposefully ODing on sleeping pills is the pharmacy's fault. I agree wholeheartedly, however, that fast food chains are disgusting corporate giants and should change their policies.
The difference between gluttony and homicide is that one harms only yourself, which is your choice (though it'd be nice if this goal weren't so easily achieved in the USA, UK, etc.), and the other harms other people, intentionally. That is their distinction. One is voluntary manslaughter, the other is suicide.

Andrewcramer I neither deny that it happened or confirm that it happened. Because there is just not enough proof to prove either theory about catholic churches correct for absolute sure. I am using your lack of evidence to prove that you cannot currently prove either theory absolutely true.

As I have said before above, is your goal to reduce deaths (whether man slaughter or suicide) or to let people choose how they die?.
because if it is the latter then you are right, if its the first I am right according to you.

I decided I am going to write my opinion on gay people as I have been philosophizing about it lately
as I am christian (I know its kinda late to join that party... XD).
I believe being gay is in and of its self is not a sin. its just what you do with those feelings that comes with being gay. the way i see it is that people who are gay got an extra way for the devil to abuse them besides the many that already exist. I hate actions/sins not people so just because gay people do some things that i find sinful does not mean they are bad. I believe smoking and drinking alcohol is a sin, but that does not mean people who drink/smoke are bad. People should be treated as an equal regardless of any sin they do. I also believe that making any sort of sin that does not effect other people directly and unwillingly illegal is one of the worst sins. after all the difference between god's plan and the devils is we would never have the choice to sin. we would be forced to always choose the right.
